Start Your Spring Concrete and Carpentry Projects with SPCS Today!

With spring rapidly approaching, SPCS wants to remind you to start planning now for your major concrete or carpentry projects. We know that when you look out the window it might be hard to get motivated for these upcoming projects, but our experience in the industry tells us that by starting now, you’ll be in a good position when the building season really kicks off. Why?

First, if you start now, you can do all the preparation work ahead of time. Perhaps your project requires permits to be pulled or draft plans for your local jurisdiction. Right now, the volume of applications and approvals is lower than when spring is in full swing and many more people get the itch to begin working on their improvement project.

If you can get a head start on the permitting and planning process now, you will be in a great position to have approvals in hand before the crush of applications starts.

We know of a property owner who wanted to install a small water feature in their backyard last summer. They began the project in the middle of June, but by the time the county and neighborhood had approved the project, it was the dead of winter. Certainly not the best season to be outside enjoying a backyard water feature. The homeowner was understandably disappointed they hadn’t started earlier.

Another reason to get started now is to take advantage of the workload of general contractors during the transitional seasons. During the colder months after the dead of winter has passed but before spring flowers start peeking out, most general contractors are primarily servicing a smaller workload of repair projects. These shoulder seasons are a great time to call a contractors to bid on your improvement project, be it carpentry or concrete and get it started (or maybe even finished) before your neighbors have even started.

Either way, by getting started now, you will have more one-to-one time with your chosen contractor, rather than in the spring and summer when they are busiest bidding or working many different projects. With the necessary paperwork and extra attention, you’ll be glad you got an early start.
